Challenge
The water authority of the Andijan region needed to know the state of its wastewater at points with no operator, no reliable internet and no power socket nearby. The brief arrived as neither a website nor an app: what was needed was a program inside the device itself, getting the numbers to people whatever the connection happened to be doing.
Solution
The program was written for the device's microcontroller and lives with constraints web development never faces: a few kilobytes of memory, no operating system, and an obligation to survive a power cycle without losing the readings already collected.
Delivery runs on two channels. The primary one sends data to a server, where it accumulates into a history. The backup sends a short message, because SMS arrives where the internet does not, and the person on site sometimes only needs the number.
Architecture and implementation
The device reads salinity, level and temperature, sanity-checks each reading before sending it, and delivers the data to the server. Every value is duplicated as a short message, so a reading is not lost to a silent connection. A power cut costs nothing: what was collected goes out when the line returns.
This was commissioned work, and the client is not named.
Result
The device shipped in 2024 and reports readings to the water authority in Andijan.
This case stands apart in the portfolio, deliberately. There is not a single line of web code in it. When we say we do more than websites, the proof is a program written for a chip rather than a sentence on a home page.
